About the Seminar:
The large number of islands that make up Indonesia and their dispersion over a wide area has given rise to a diverse culture and hundreds of ethnic groups. Delivering quality healthcare across multicultural groups and locales with an increasing incidence of non-communicable diseases is an ongoing challenge.
Similarly, the US population is becoming more ethnically diverse, and the occurrences of non-communicable diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes are increasing. Exploring solutions to these challenges with in-country professionals provides opportunities for practitioners to enhance healthcare delivery models and best practices to prevent and control disease in cross-cultural environments.
Proposed Topics:
- National Healthcare Delivery Systems in Indonesia
- Community Healthcare: Challenges & Conquests
- Prevention & Control of Communicable Diseases
- Emerging Trends in Non-communicable Diseases
- Oral Health & Disease Prevention
- Emergency Healthcare Delivery: Tsunamis & Beyond

Port Highlights:
Benoa
Located on the southeastern coast of Bali is the small village of Tanjung Benoa. Still considered a fishing village,
Benoa has developed over the past 20 years into a major player in the tourism sector. The calm waters and the beautiful
white sand beaches have made Benoa the prime water sport area of Bali. Being a peninsula that is only accessible from one
direction, Tanjung Benoa is still relatively quiet with a more relaxed feeling.
Lembar
Lembar is noticeably different than its close neighbor, Bali. The northern part of the island is mountainous and lush with tall
trees and shrubs, and the south is arid and covered by savannas. Large Asian mammals are absent and replaced instead by marsupials,
lizards, cockatoos and parrots. Lembar experienced strong Balinese influences, but has retained a unique identity. The indigenous
people of Lembar, the Sasaks, are predominantly Muslim and have a strong, distinguished tradition. Famous for its ikat hand-woven
textiles, the island has exceptional charm and is relatively undiscovered.
Probolinggo
Probolinggo is one of area of East Java, which consists of Javanese, Maduranese, Pendalungan (descents of Java and Maduranese) and
Tenggerese who still keep a strong hold of their tradition and custom for so many centuries. Probolinggo has bordered by a group of
mountains that is Mount Semeru, Mount Bromo, and Mount Argopuro and northerly is the beach line. Probolinggo's soil has highly
fertile, because the land was formed out mechanical soil full of minerals derived from volcanic explosions.
Surabaya
Surabaya is Indonesia's second-largest city with a population of over 2.7 million (5.6 million in the metropolitan area), and the
capital of the province of East Java. It is located on the northern shore of eastern Java at the mouth of the Mas River and along
the edge of the Madura Strait. To Indonesians, it is known as "the city of heroes" due to the importance of the Battle of Surabaya
in galvanizing Indonesian and international support for Indonesian independence during the Indonesian National Revolution.
Semarang
Semarang is a commercial port located roughly halfway between Jakarta and Surabaya, along Java's north central coast. Today,
many of the island's most important exports, including tobacco, sugar, rubber, coffee, and cacao are shipped through Semarang.
Because of its accessibility to the island's interior, it is an ideal gateway to numerous coffee plantations and the spectacular
UNESCO World Heritage Site of Borobudur.
Singapore
Founded as a British trading colony in 1819, Singapore joined the Malaysian Federation in 1963. Two years later, it became an
independent island-state, developing into one of the world's most prosperous countries. With ultra-modern skyscrapers combined
with a medley of Chinese, Indian and Malay influences, Singapore is a dynamic city rich in contrast and color, exhibiting a
harmonious blend of culture, cuisine, arts and architecture.
